Whole Sign Houses

Lets talk about Whole Sign houses, their application to modern astrology, their historical basis, and what this means to the astrological community as a whole.

First off, what are Whole Signs Houses? The Whole Sign house system was the original means of dividing up the chart into a separate, twelve fold division in order to determine which area of life a planet had influence over. Modern astrologers are familiar with this concept, and can chose from a wide variety of systems, which divide the four quadrants by various calculations, the most popular today being the Placidus method of house division. Whole Sign Houses are really not a system of houses at all per se, but rather you use the signs as houses, instead of creating a separate 12-fold division of the zodiac. In this system, you find the ascendant, and the sign that the ascendant falls in designates the entire first house, from 0 to 30 degrees of that sign, regardless of where the ascendant falls in that sign. From there you count each sign after that initial sign as one whole house. In this system, the Ascendant and the Midheaven do not act as the cusps of the houses, they both merely act as horoscopic points in the chart, like the part of fortune, or the vertex for example. While the word ‘horoscope’ has come to mean the entire chart itself in modern times, Rob Hand points out in his work on Whole Sign Houses that the Greek word for horoscope was originally more specifically defined as a point in the chart. Thus the ascendant, midheaven, and the Lots (aka Arabic Parts) could all be generally defined under the category of ‘horoscopic points’. One especially crucial aspect of the Whole Sign house system is that the midheaven does not designate the cusp of the 10th house, it just acts as a point of focus, and can land in the 8th 9th 10th 11th or 12th house depending on ones location on the earth. Also, while the ascendant acts as a horoscopic point, which designates the sign in which the first house falls, it does not necessarily designate the ‘cusp’, or starting point of the first house, but merely as a point of focus or heightened activity, because in fact the first house really begins at the beginning of the sign in which the ascendant falls, no matter how late in whatever particular sign it is found. So, in order to find the houses in a chart, every sign counted counterclockwise after the first ‘place’ or sign that contains the ascendant is taken to be the house next in order, because both the signs and the houses coincide with one another, although each retains its own distinct meaning.

This is the oldest form of house division, which was used during the Hellenistic era by our astrological forbearers during the time of horoscopic astrology’s creation. It has only been recently rediscovered over the past decade or so, due to the newly translated works of the Hellenistic astrologers. It has been shown that the house systems that the vast majority of modern astrologers use today, is not what the founders had originally intended, and in fact it all started due a misinterpretation of several fundamental Hellenistic texts during the transmission of western astrology to the Arabs presumably in the 7th and 8th centuries.

The system of house division that is used today by most astrologers was originally devised by the Greeks as a way of measuring planetary 'activity', or perhaps strength. This system of ‘dynamic division’, where you take the Ascendant and Midheaven as starting points, and then divide the quadrants accordingly, which is similar to our modern idea of house division, is clearly explained by several of the Hellenistic astrologers, including Ptolemy who was not a practicing astrologer, but they were careful to explain that this was a ‘dynamical’ division intended to gauge how “busy” a planet is, as opposed to the ‘topical’ division of the chart which designates the actual areas, or ‘houses’ of the chart.

Vettius Valens explains a type of ‘dynamical’ division, which would be the equivalent to Porphyry, where the first third of each quadrant, from each of the four angular points, (i.e. the Asc/Dsc., MC/IC) known in modern house division as the angular ‘houses’ (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) are the most ‘busy’ or active ’houses’. The following third of the quadrant (i.e. 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th) is only 'moderately active’. And the last third of each quadrant (i.e. 3, 6, 9, 12) is the 'least active' of all the divisions. So. This is called a 'dynamical' division of the chart, because it is a way to gauge planetary activity, or strength, BUT it does not delegate, or signify the areas of life affected by the planetary placements. That’s what the 'topical' division of the chart is for, i.e. Whole Sign houses, because that shows what area of life is effected.

So essentially what happened is that when horoscopic astrology was passed to the Arabs through the Greek writings in the 7th and 8th centuries, the original understanding of how the houses were divided was lost, and through scribal error, and misinterpretations they ended up passing astrology back to the West during the Renaissance with a form of house division that was not intended for what it was being used for. Some of the Arab astrologers such as Masha’allah correctly understood how the Greeks divided the houses, and in his work and several other Arab astrologers works from that period you can see them clearly using Whole Signs, but sadly much of their work was not available by the time astrology made it back to the west, and what little was available, was misunderstood.

Another interesting dimension to this saga is that Vedic astrology, which was heavily influenced by the Hellenistic astrologers, still uses Whole Sign houses to this day because they didn’t have the problems that western astrology had with it being transmitted from culture to culture, and misinterpreted and such. Their astrology is still essentially the same as it was 2,000 years ago, and they employ many of the same techniques as the Hellenistic astrologers did, even the same house system- Whole Sign Houses, but for some reason, we lost connection with our roots.

So my point with all of this is to try and alert you all that there is a change afoot. This simple, yet remarkably important facet of astrology has been rediscovered and could really go a long way in solving some of the simplest problems (i.e. intercepted houses, multiple systems of house division, etc.) that have plagued us for hundreds of years now. Many modern astrologers view Sun-Sign astrology distastefully, almost as a de-evolution of the art, but in this case its funny, because the tables may be turned, because they have been using Whole Signs all along.

At least give it a try and go through a few old charts of people who you know and see if it resonates or elucidates certain areas which had always been a mystery before. Many of the charts may not even change at all, but for the ones that do, be sure to pay attention to planets changing houses, house rulership, and which sign the Midheaven falls in.

I would like to sum up my problems below-

1.I am not able to communicate properly despite of the fact that I am knowing the subject/topic completely and not only just that ,I end up saying the completely opposite things (knowingly) and thus create unpleasent and disastrous situations for myself. Initially I was not aware of this phenomenon, but when then I noticed that this happens incessently on Wednesdays.Also, I have noticed that sepecially on Wednesdays I am bound to fail in all my ventures or whatever project I am on to. In the best scenario also (on Wednesdays) I would atleast utter something which would undo all my good efforts and make me regret! And believe me this is not superstition or coincidence, it's is true and definitely happens despite of all precautions! On the other hand , Tuesday is the best day for me since childhood.
Even otherwise also, I generally feel that I am not able to express myself adequately and I could have done much better.

2. Despite of all my efforts I am not able to get rid of my loans / debts since past 10 yrs! Although I had been working at top positions in various MNCs, and regarded as one of the most able,efficient and knowledgeable persons, I am not able to retain the jobs and its like KING today and PAUPER tomorrow. I have been out of jobs also many a times! And all this has added to my woes and debts!

My sincere request to you all is to please let me know astrological remedies if any. People have advised Emerald etc and have also told that most of my planets are 'Supt'(sleeping) or are in neech rashis, especially Mercury and Sun. They also tell me that my Mercury is totally combust and that along with Ketu in the 2nd house cause my speech problems and debt problems. Is it true? My present Mahadasha is of Mangal and my Anterdasha of Venus just started. I would like to highlight that my Worst period started with the onset of Mars mahadasha.

3. Also , please tell me whether my Rahu Mahadasha is going to be bad or good?

TRUE ZODIAC

In inspecting the zodiac, one finds out that there are in fact 22 zodiacal stations1 in all. These zodiacal stations are the veritable zodiac. Since it can be inspected by scientific means, this zodiac has been named Academic Zodiac, as perused by astronomers but also astrologers. The horoscope is thus the veritable blueprint of one's true natal skies.

EASTERN ASCENDANT

The ascendant is measured at east. The guardian angel is the eastern star. The astrologer is initiated by an inorganic being such as one's own guardian angel. Much as theurgy, astrology requires due initiation. The Art surely could not be absorbed from books, mostly because astrological books never existed. As Europe never had any astrologer at all, only rare theurgists dabbled into this forgotten Art. The present epoch offers a modest set of only 16 eastern ascendants. As the precession of the ascendants remains a mystery for the general public, the knowledge of such a basic process can rightfully be marked as sheer initiation.

DIABOLIC ZODIACS

In order to rule2, the lord of this planet must have at least one uniform disinformation for all human beings. A rather ingenious device plays asinine tricks upon humankind as a whole. It is called the zodiac. It is a known thing that the devil is at odds with mathematics and particularly solar system dynamics. The inorganic double crossed humankind, not only with the 12 signs, but also with a futile difference between the eastern and western zodiac.

FALSE ZODIACS

Both eastern and western zodiacs are of course pure fancy. Anybody believing in the 12 signs is already a sick person. Of course, people naively persist in their asinine belief. Such a belief is not theirs at all, like most items in their own lives. They are not living their own lives at all. Default mind tells them what to do and all do the same thing.

UNIFORM DEVIL

The devil was never interested in mere partial conquest. On touchdown, it encompassed the planet in choosing the best food for its colons and scouts. The food was to be us. What the lord of this world was about was total annihilation of humanity3, apart from its being using it as fuel and food. Namely, the devil feeds upon thriving passions in a human being, but most prominently the innocent emanations of a baby. The massive production of babies is in fact fostered by the inorganic pests and plague of humankind. This is more or less the report as given by King Solomon in his intercourse with four kings of hell, as recently illustrated in brief by such works as Matrix the movie or Dark City.

xiii The Academic Zodiac context includes the concept of the local zodiac as applied to horoscopes of beings, born on other planets. The Night & Day house system was introduced as our direct answer to the challenge of a single house system that would answer the logical needs of the astrologer as well as serve as didactic platform for the initiate. The Night & Day house system reflects the observed sky. While this statement may seem blunt, it nevertheless encapsulates mysterious simplicity. Let us not forget that the WMAP cold spot is rising in Eridanus in the Night & Day house system and nowhere else in all astrology over the past 3000 years. Neither the Chinese nor the Sumerian ever had such a house system, albeit it is the most obvious of all, being the blunt refection of the skies as we observe them from this planet Earth. Something so simple is surely welcome into our own technical culture, especially as able to handle our next step. Which is our next giant leap forward as technical culture? The Night & Day house system is able to handle local zodiacs on spacecraft as fed by the board computer. In other words while obsolete house systems could not handle Oslo in Norway, we are able to process horoscopes at any speed in whatever alien galaxy. The first obvious improvements are of topocentric nature, namely the Night & Day house system is able to analyze the horoscope for an undersea quake, as well as set the houses for the birthplace of Dalai Lama. The Cartesian system works anywhere in the galaxy with equal precision. Altitude is an integral part of the horoscope, as it is based on topocentric standards as implied within the Cartesian system. Depression and altitude affect the position of the Moon as well as other factors in a horoscope, especially when extreme. This point was largely overlooked by amateur astrology programs, which never prompted the operator at entering the altitude of the place. Considering the major difficulties that a superstitious astrology had in the past 3000 years, we can bluntly state that altitude is a minor problem of the past, successfully solved within the Night & Day house system. The Night & Day house system is actually based on azimuth and altitude, as following the logick of the observer. When the Moon is conjunct Jupiter in Orion one can see it. Whatever is shown in the house system can be observed in the real sky. Prior to our house system one could not find any relationship with the real sky as astrology was rightfully considered blunder and superstition. The Night & Day house system is not in the least confined to planet Earth only. In extension, we were able to assign local zodiacs to all the planets of the solar system; in addition, experimental areas as ruled by the Earth coorbitals, outer guardians, dwarf planets or comets. xviii Eris has been delineated as 2003 UB313 in the 12 houses of the horoscope. The original delineation are therefore unaffected by naming or even its nickname, Xena. Furthermore, “Eris in the 12 houses of the horoscope” has been separately applied to kids, the adolescent, women and even pets. This variegated approach to delineation follows on the trail of Quaoar, which has been delineated for love, finance and magick. Our first transneptunian delineation pertains to 1992 QB1. The major breakthrough was to come with 2000 WR106, Varuna; and whatever was written of Ixion, Sedna and 2002 TX300 is history.
xix The X zodiac has been published on an early date, august 1st 2005. At the time, much as today we were fully operative and ready for analysis after working hard on TNO like Quaoar. Gigabytes of material were written and published around a single transneptunian object because it was so important to reach planetary status from being a mere transneptunian. The race begun silently in 1992 with the first cubewano, when astrologers were generally unaware of the new discoveries.

As the centaurs were gradually named, they never really fitted into their original delineation completely, namely all objects were delineated prior to their naming by a committee. We are planning a major revision of the delineation of all centaurs in one volume. The centaurs that have been assigned temporary designation but were redesignated later as e.g. SDO, will be included in this edition. True, we have gradually lost interest in the upcoming centaurean discoveries since giant transneptunians kept us transfixed and busy. Gigabytes of material were written and scanned around a single TNO like Quaoar. When a new giant like Sedna appeared it naturally dwarfed any centaur in importance as it commanded respect along with our total commitment.

Bailout

Rightfully the only man I would ever vote for, Ron Paul, clearly predicts more bailouts. Give a kid a bottle of whiskey and Bugatti WayRon and start immediately shopping for a new car.

Albeit Haumea in Bootes and Spica Virginis cluster, the bailout has Chaos (sic) rising with ascendant Cetus I very close to Eridanus, thus above Witchallow ( WMAP clod spot ) and the Axis of Evil aligned neatly. What I like less is the fragments of comet Wild near the ascendant, decomposing stuff, etc, etc, ...

The descendant is Antares in Scorpius with Hylonome, impulsive ( !!! hothead ) Ixion and five centaurs, nothing special, but I still experiment with exact time of the bailout.

Hopefully no act was issued around midnight when the WTC blaster, Eris, rose in Cetus. Cetus is the boss of the zodiac for the present age of Kali, since aligned at equinox time. This is the age of Cetus and the bailout passed with Cetus.

Local positive omens for now, but the whole picture is of a crisis not to be solved in one day. Who will pay? The miserable, of course. The bailout is like a medieval tax campaign. The peasant goes to war, pays taxes and upholds a corrupt economy. My U.S.A. citizenship still pending; I can not be really acquainted will all implications, neither I am sure I want it any more.

Just checked the meridian which fails short of Phoenix ( to support and align to fed ) and is in Indus. Nessus in Microscupium ( aggressive minuteness? ) is next, then Neptune ( oil issues, capitalistic socialism, possibly left wing movements? ), Damocles with impotent centaur Chiron, where Damocles crushes the whole map down to nothing. With Cahos and Damocles the chances are dim, still checking, of course, but did not Ron Paul analyze this already?

The feel of this edition is like the early Eris 2003 UB313 X Zodiac issue Aug 1st 2005, only in our case we have the D Zodiac.

Eris and 2008 FV42 will cooperate in many interesting positions from Dorado to Reticulum, but sometimes "close" to the ecliptic, even in conjunction with objects of interest, comets, dwarf planets, centaurs, star, Apoheles...

i The year 1992 is significant because of the first cubewano object 1992 QB1 being discovered and delineated. The event triumphs with an unending string of transneptunian discoveries like Varuna, Ixion, Quaoar, Orcus, 2005 FY9 and Eris. The first KBO to be delineated are those with H < 5, besides a set of (comparatively small) “outer guardians” (as published within our Nibiru Research Project) and distant comets. The large comets like Wild (and Machholz) qualify as apocalyptic door openers.
iiThe protest was that the Moon is in fact not a planet. If we were to introduce all of the moons of the solar system, then our own Moon would fit in., The P and X zodiac marked as obsolete.
iiiIAU Orion is however considered as closer to the ecliptic than Cetus. Sun in Orion and Cetus as standard sidereal positions.
ivSun in Orion is a possibility even within the IAU definitions, but Sun in Cetus is a slightly remote possibility, however open for academic research and of course haioled in astrology and exorcism, as Cetus remains the traditional constellation of the devil.
v 2014 is the crisis before 2020. The year 2014 has been first analyzed in our publication entitled AION, as concern the fall of Vatican. The subprime mortgage crisis may be at its peak in the year 2014.

vii The Witchållow materials have been party translated into Italian language. This is our first integral Italian publication dedicated to modern astrology.

ix The role is twofold. The easiest way to direct Witchållow is to project it for tropical astrology use. In that way the WMAP cold spot becomes a fictitious dot at 10 degrees Taurus tropical. This projection nevertheless yields results in primary direction. The second way as especially applied to secondary progression is to keep the WEMAP cold spot in the place of origin in Eridanus while progressing objects.

xi The Academic Zodiac context includes the concept of the local zodiac as applied to horoscopes of beings, born on other planets. The Night & Day house system was introduced as our direct answer to the challenge of a single house system that would answer the logical needs of the astrologer as well as serve as didactic platform for the initiate. The Night & Day house system reflects the observed sky. While this statement may seem blunt, it nevertheless encapsulates mysterious simplicity. Let us not forget that the WMAP cold spot is rising in Eridanus in the Night & Day house system and nowhere else in all astrology over the past 3000 years. Neither the Chinese nor the Sumerian ever had such a house system, albeit it is the most obvious of all, being the blunt refection of the skies as we observe them from this planet Earth. Something so simple is surely welcome into our own technical culture, especially as able to handle our next step. Which is our next giant leap forward as technical culture? The Night & Day house system is able to handle local zodiacs on spacecraft as fed by the board computer. In other words while obsolete house systems could not handle Oslo in Norway, we are able to process horoscopes at any speed in whatever alien galaxy. The first obvious improvements are of topocentric nature, namely the Night & Day house system is able to analyze the horoscope for an undersea quake, as well as set the houses for the birthplace of Dalai Lama. The Cartesian system works anywhere in the galaxy with equal precision. Altitude is an integral part of the horoscope, as it is based on topocentric standards as implied within the Cartesian system. Depression and altitude affect the position of the Moon as well as other factors in a horoscope, especially when extreme. This point was largely overlooked by amateur astrology programs, which never prompted the operator at entering the altitude of the place. Considering the major difficulties that a superstitious astrology had in the past 3000 years, we can bluntly state that altitude is a minor problem of the past, successfully solved within the Night & Day house system. The Night & Day house system is actually based on azimuth and altitude, as following the logick of the observer. When the Moon is conjunct Jupiter in Orion one can see it. Whatever is shown in the house system can be observed in the real sky. Prior to our house system one could not find any relationship with the real sky as astrology was rightfully considered blunder and superstition. The Night & Day house system is not in the least confined to planet Earth only. In extension, we were able to assign local zodiacs to all the planets of the solar system; in addition, experimental areas as ruled by the Earth coorbitals, outer guardians, dwarf planets or comets. Planetocentric astrology thus marks a giant step ahead for humankind ready to be born on other planets and spacecraft with precise horoscopes even horary charts. I know that sun and earth are supposed to line up with the centre of the galaxy (as well as the end of the Mayan calander and Terance Mckennas end of time), does anyone have knowledge (not so much speculation - though of course we can do that to some extent) on what this could mean ?

Somewhat confused

Hello all!

I am fairly new to astrology (am currently being taught by a professional astrologer) so I hope I do not bore you with what may seem to be silly questions!

Recently I have been looking at a chart and I saw that around 2013 the subject will have:

Saturn at 16 Scorpio return

Pluto conjuncting natal Jupiter at 8-9 Capricorn (I have heard from someone before that 8-9 degrees of a sign may mean a danger of some sort?)

and finally Uranus at 8-9 Aries

I have a 'gist' of what it means but I am just unsure. I have been looking through my books and online but I am unable to find anything.

Can anyone be so kind as to explain this to me? It will be very much appreciated :-)

This is a BIG step in the right direction for health care in the USA! It has been no secret, but no one was talking about it since the monetary benefits that many doctors are receiving from these companies made this unlikely. I mean - if you were the type to only care about money (which is why many become doctors in the first place), wouldn't you want a free trip to Cancun by putting other people on basically unproven and even harmful chemical substances?

Catherine D. De Angelis, MD, MPH and Phil B. Fontanarosa, MD, MBA have submitted this timely (and likely unwelcome) article into the April 16, 2008 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), entitled "Impugning the Integrity of Medical Science - the Adverse Effects of Industry Influence."

What is even more awesome is that this was broadcast on the same day on the morning edition of Talk Radio's "Paul Harvey" show, so this information has come to the attention of many Americans today!

I am happy to see that some doctors do in fact have some integrity. This may also be an opening for safer alternative methods to be approved by the AMA for doctors to use and not feel like they will have their medical licensing taken away if they recommend a proven herbal remedy (as an example) instead of the new designer drugs of the day. I hope this allows them the courage to step forward now that the door has been opened!

We can help by showing this to our medical providers (if you have those) this article, and telling them about this, they can maybe take additional steps as doctors to become more able to practice alternative and natural techniques without risking their careers. Also, tell your friends in any way you can, so that they can demand alternative therapies be implemented or they will go elsewhere now that this article ought to free up other practitioners to use these methods. This also provides some validation for Alternative practitioners who have known about these dangers all along. Health care freedom (and responsibility) is up to all of us - please spread the message!

How will astrology be applied to people not born on Earth?

Last year, a friend of mine asked me how (or if, really) the astrological systems that we use will be used for people born off-planet. I'd been compiling information about some people's charts on my flight in SF, where he lives, and I'd been talking about the importance-of-the-Moon-this and the influence-of-the-ascendant-that for awhile before he put forth his question.

As he admitted, he's not completely sold on the application of astrology, but he was quite sincerely interested in knowing how it could apply when (and it is just a question of when) humans are born in some extraterrestrial colony. From an information systems standpoint, he was very interested to know whether it would still be applicable. I thought about it and said at the time, yeah, the variables would have to change: what archetype and associations would be given to Earth if one was born on the Moon? Or, if one was born on Mars, then how would it's two moons relate to someone's birth?

My friend said that when he'd put this question to people he knew were into astrology, they'd just get pissed or think that he was just putting astrology down. I think it's a very important consideration, and I wanted to know what anyone else thought? I don't know much about the heliocentric method, but perhaps the answer is connected to that system.

Pluto square Pluto, Saturn square Saturn - Square ON!

Right now I have transitting Pluto (9th house 26' Sag) squaring my natal Pluto (6th house 26' Virgo)
and transitting Saturn (4th/5th house cusp 4' Leo) squaring my natal Saturn (1st house 4' Tau)....

I have been "stuck" in a deep inertia for a while now - unable to make any move at all (maybe due to my 12th house North Node in Pisces - thanks Sherpa!).... Wondering if this may be due to these influences....

Also - any thoughts in general regarding these two powerful planets simulateneous squaring off can manifest themselves???
I'd like to make good use of these tremendous powers - but like I said, am somewhat paralyzed...

The chart wheel has an ancient message and Pluto is wrongly assigned.

This is a little Astrology project truly worth doing because it is really interesting ala Davinci Code type symbology. Get a circle chart showing signs and planetary rulership if you can find one. Otherwise write the planeary rulership (current and traditional rulerships) next to the sign. Start at Leo and Cancer as the top of the circle ..... now start going down either side of the chart noting the planetary rulership for each sign. This is what you will find. Mercury = Gemini/Virgo, Venus = Taurus/Libra, Mars = Aries /traditionally Scorpio, Jupiter = Sagitarrius/traditionally Pisces, Saturn = Capricorn/traditionally Aguarius. Think of the actual solar system. The planatary rulerships were based in order on their actual distance from the Sun... Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,new= Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. As the new planets were assigned, they continued to be assigned based on distance from the Sun, wrapping around the circle in both directions. Uranus was assigned to rule Aquarius, Neptune was assigned to rule Pisces. Uranus was assigned subruler of Capricorn and Neptune subruler of Sagittarius. Then came Pluto. When they got to Pluto, they wrapped around in the other direction giving it full rulership of Scorpio. It is the only planet to which this was ever done. Who forgot what they were doing ? All others are in order. To be consistent Pluto should be assigned to full rulership of Aries. Or...Uranus should be assigned full rulership of Capricorn and Neptune should be assigned full rulership of Sagittarius then Pluto can be assigned to full rulership of Scorpio. So icksnay on the Pluto assignment. Any way, My next question when I learned all this years ago by chance was...why is Aries the first sign of the Zodiac when it appears the wheel was designed with Leo as the starting point for planetary rulerships.? What is special about Mars...or the point between Jupiter and Mars (as Jupter was the traditional ruler of Pisces) Why draw a map of the solar system with 0 degrees of Aries designated as the entry point ? They could have chosen to assign the Sun as the ruler of Aries and so on. But they deliberately chose not do this. I wonder... what is the rest of the message in this ancient map?

This is how I would arrange the signs with their new planetary “rulers”. Gemini gets to have Mercury all to themselves, like they always wanted. Virgo was always stressed out in Mercury, so she will move all the way out to the end of the solar system to Xena, or UB 313, far from the madding crowds.

Venus will now be surrendered to Libra, who might finally stop worrying about triangulation, while Taurus, can now have her own planet, Charon, which is fitting because this planetoid has long been associated with healing and the body.

The planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto rule Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces and Scorpio as before. The moon, which really effects all of us, not just Cancer people, will be neutralized, and Cancer will move to Charon, which represents agriculture, grain, and the love a mother bears for her child.

When Sedna is added, we'll have to develop a thirteenth sign.

meridian house system.........

Hello All.....I am sorta new to this tribe. Anyway, I am not new to astrology, but recently discovered the meridian house system. I am wondering if anyone here knows/follows this particular house system? I feel that it seems like an interesting system b/c of how much it changes my chart. in all the charts i have had read-they all put my moon in the seventh house, mars in the seventh house and neptune in the 12th house.........these are the planets that change in the meridian house system.........it puts my moon/mars in the sixth and neptune in the 11th........anyone? i'd love it if someone could help me w/this one..........

Astrology and geography...

Hi - I don't know a great deal about astrology, and I'm wondering if there is an astrology of places.
Is there an astrological correlation with just the raw land that an astrologer could interpret?

Can an astrologer look at your chart and determine what cities or small towns or places might be favorable to you and your enterprises? Would you have to known the exact time that the town was incorporated, or something like that?
That might be tricky to determine in some cases.

I'm thinking about doing some traveling and wondering about different ways to organize my travel.
But I'm otherwise just curious.

Is that a specialized field of astrology, or is it fairly common?

a natal cat's cradle ?

does anyone have any idea the implications of what would look like a cat's cradle in one's chart.

i seem to have something resembling such. i have a picture of my chart under my pics on my profile.

from my 3rd house to my 6th house i have a quincux between each of the follow placements (in order) : north node , pluto , uranus , neptune , and mercury.

so i have a trine between north node & mercury, with uranus at the apex, forming sextiles between. pluto and neptune also form a sextile. so the visual forms a cat's cradle image.

The dance of the planets continues! Even when we deny or ignore their influences, we find that our magnetism and watery bodies continue to draw influences from our immediate environment and the subtle influences of the cosmos beyond. The microcosm of our selves reflects the macrocosm.
As this eclipse month ends, a little known fault near Salem OR gives a shudder as if to say, ”Yes!” even Gaia, the world Spirit herself, is aware of the alignment of Sun and Moon.
The new moon defines the area of focus for the month, which then unfolds in potential for the first two weeks and then releases that potential (as defined by the full moon) over the following two weeks. All the while, the other 8 planets continue in their spiral dance to unfold our personal and planetary journey.
This new moon begins 4/27 at 12:44 pm PDT (West Coast US time) with Sun and Moon in Taurus. Taurus has to do with the Earth and Her resources, physical plane, body awareness, material goods, land, wealth, and all that is tangible and measurable, as well as the artistic and beautiful. It is no coincidence that the ancients observed the connection between this earth sign and the joy of the Earth’s creation through flowers and growth of all that is green.
Energy radiates from the middle of the fixed signs outward. That is, midseason is the embodiment of the season. Spring, is described best by Beltane (the good time) and the flowing propagation of the Earth, than the firey newness of Aries. Moon Mother

I have noticed in many of the charts of people I have given readings too that the mother, as far as actual manner in which they conduct their lifes seems to be more acurately described by the sign that procedes the sign of the native's moon and the sign that the moon is in seem to describe more the reaction to the mother of the native. For example, an aires moon native might have had a mother that had a drug issue (pieces) which made the native feel threatened and quick to react emotionally (aries moon); or an aquarian moon native's mother may have been so absorbed with her job (caprcn) that the native developed a certain sort of distanced elitism (aqurs moon). Has anyone else noticed this correlation?

Classical as in "Beatles" or "Bach"?

My classics professor hired me to dig over his garden for a summer every Sunday. After work we would climb onto the patio and talk about Everything Under the Sun. Or, rather, he would talk about everything and I would listen!

One time his communist son turned up and we talked about Leninism and anarchy for three hours in fascinating detail. Another time his gambling buddy and girlfriend turned up and we talked about probability, complexity theory, and horary prediction in astrology.

But on his own he was willing to speak even wider, ranging from Islamic history to Heidegger to Tibetan dream tantrayoga to Sufism to, eventually, classical Egyptian astrology.

I have heard people talk about classical astrology as something in the last century. That's like calling the Beatles classic rather than Bach; its a far narrower time reference, and a corresponding smallness of meaning with it. But because (ancient) classical astrology is really, really different to our present forms it is easy to view it as just old fogey stuff.

My professor also took me to visit some Classicists - as in, students of the Greek and Roman classics. Artists, eccentrics, recluses, invalids - the doors opened to a vital world of thinking and feeling completely alien to our postmodern sensibility. I was awed, then excited, then silenced by their depth of wisdom and understanding. The Classical Roman tradition alone is profound in wisdom comparable to the Native American or Hindu or Buddhist or Confucian traditions, and yet our Western tradition is seen as the dead past. In fact, the classical apsects of consciousness are revealed to be alive and well; among us walk Romans and Greeks of the Classical period, and we cannot see them.

My professor recommended two writers on classical astrology. Because of what was lost in the Great Fire of Alexandria, we will never know how sophisticated classical astrology became, but for these two books. The first is Ptolemy's Astrology. The second is an anonymous Greek almanack of predictive astrology for farmers.

Briefly, then, I will describe the unique nature of classical astrology as he taught me that Sunday afternoon on the patio his his garden.

The system uses only the visible planets. Like modern physics, symetry is everything. So the system of rulership has no start and end point (Aries and Pisces). Instead it has an axis which passes between Leo and Cancer, ruled respectively by the Sun and Moon; and Aquarius and Capricorn, both ruled by Saturn.

This will be familiar to most astrologers:

Saturn rules:

Aquarius and Capricorn

Jupiter rules:

Pisces and Sagittarius.

Mars rules:

Aries and Scorpio.

(Can you see the pattern? The zodiac is split down the middle between ying and yang expressions of each planetary principle!)

Venus rules:

Taurus and Libra.

Mercury rules:

Gemini and Virgo.

Which leads us to the ultimate yin and yang, the sun and the moon, the givers of life.

This system reflects the seasons and agriculture closely, and in fact was used as a planting and tilling guide from time immemorial. The present tradition to use a circle to describe the zodiac chart of an individual is instead replaced, significantly, by squares for each of the houses, forming a matrix of 4 X 4 boxes for the chart. This is highly significant as the Western form of a basic Chinese Feng Shui Bagua form, and the square chart form describes a block of land with planting and fallow cycles as accurately as it describes an individual. More significantly still, this square chart is earth-focused and nature-centered, with local associations to cloud formations, plants, bird life, water flow, disease presence of absence, earthquakes, storms, and all incidents of rural life - it is the remaining living part of the indigenous tribal culture of the ancient Westerners in that area.

Later, Greek, reinterpretations would greatly alter the meaning of this square chart.

Interpretation of a chart traditionally was completely different to how we now do it. The worldview was utterly different here and classical astrology parts ways with modern astrology completely.

It appears there was a birth chart of the universe, a perfect, round, celestial chart. Unlike the earthly individual chart it was circular. This round chart (which the Greeks, frankly, usurped from the "gods" and abrogated to human individuality) is the invisible realm of the soul, the vastness of space, and the eternal life of all phenomena in the universe.

This circular chart was superimposed onto the square chart to produce an interpretation.

For the ancients, it didn't matter how positive your personal charts aspects might be. What mattered was how you chart harmonised with the original chart, the map of the universe, the image of your face before you were born. So the sun in the celestial chart stood in Leo, and the aspects of your Sun to it were highly significant. Planets stood in their rulerships in the celestial chart, and wandered in the earthly charts.

It is hard to recapture the uncanny way the Greeks altered this. When you read some of their astrology they sound like they are tripping on drugs sometimes, they are very out there. For the latter day ancient Greeks taught that the individual was one and identical with the universal chart itself:

"Men are born of the earth, once-born then dying, but we Athenian men are born twice, born of the earth, then born of the stars. We are the twice-born and celestial men," they taught.

The doctine of the twice-born man, fueled by the drugs of the Eleusian mysteries and the occult and superstition of the pagans, gave rise to a new sense of self among the Greeks, the sense of oneself as an "individual", separate from the universe. And it is that concept which has led to our present forms of "classical" (Beatles-level) astrology.

It is helpful to know that there is a classical astrology which is deeper and wider that modern classicism. To every Beatles there's a Bach.

Classical Astrology Books

After going to a local bookstore, I discovered some gems in the "Vedic" Astrology book section:
older western Astrology books!

The books are reprints of old classics and are now printed
in Bombay, India by Taraporevala Publishers.

Horary Classic:

"The Astrologer's Guide, 155 Ancient Aphorisms of Bonatus and Cardan"
Edited by William Lilly in 1675.

Western Classics by Sepharial (Walter Gorn Old) 1864-1929:

"The Science of Foreknowledge"
"Horoscopes, How to Make and Read Them"
"Directional Astrology"

William Lilly wrote "Christian Astrology", the main textbook for Horary
Astrology still used today.

Sepharial invented "Radix" directions.

If you do want an introduction to Vedic Astrology, try this:

"Light on Life, an Introduction to the Astrology of India", by
Hart DeFou and Robert Svoboda, Penguin 1996.

House Counting and siblings

So if one looks to the 7th house for the first spouse and the ninth for the second ect, and the 5th for the first child the 7th for the second 9th for 3rd ect how would one go about counting specific siblings? It seems to me that you would have to look to the third house for the sibling who was born before the native, then the fifth, seventh, progressing by two houses for each older sibling; and working backward from the eleventh house for each younger brother of sister. ( for for native "C", who comes from a family with oldest brother A, older sister B, younger sister D, and youngest brother E 3rd=b, 5th=A , 11th= d 9th=E ) Or I suppose it could be vise-versa. Anyone have any insight into this house counting question?

On September 19, 2001 at 3:20pm PDT in Point Arena, California she understood the question to be, "Will I get the control freak job?"

Why "control freak job" and not just job? Look at the sign on the 10th house.

What is the answer? Will he get the control freak job?

So the question is "Will I get the job?"

A question of degrees

Has anyone else noticed that a certain degree or range of degrees (e.g. 10-12 cancer) will keep appearing in charts of individuals or events an uncanny amount of times at certain points in their lives? This has been happening a lot to me recently and was just wondering if it is a synchronatic phenomenon that others have noticed as well.

A question of equinoxes

Just a question that I have been pondering for a while and was wondering if anyone had any insight into: Since Western Astrology uses the seasons as it's time frame (i.e. vernal equanox as it's 0 Aries Point) should the deliniation of natal charts for events taking place or natives born in the southern hemisphere be modified by switching polarities or perhaps looking at the sign as being more heavily influenced by it's polarity? Or should one just take the seasonal time framing as a base that is independant of actual seasons?

I posted the chart I have of the question in the pictures-- it's titled mom's request.

The querent is my mother and that is shown pretty clearly with the Asc in Cancer-- she was away visiting her siblings for a family reuinion-- moon in gemini in the 11th house... that seems pretty acurate. It appears that the chart is fit to be judged... no via combust issues and saturn isn't in the 7th excetra. It looks to me like the diamond is still in her house. (ruler of the 2nd/ 5th in 10th house-- mars in rulership) Would it be in the E side of the house along the ssw wall (Aries 10th house mars in the 10th)? I wish that I had an actual book to look all of this stuff up in. Any ideas?
