How will astrology be applied to people not born on Earth?

Last year, a friend of mine asked me how (or if, really) the astrological systems that we use will be used for people born off-planet. I'd been compiling information about some people's charts on my flight in SF, where he lives, and I'd been talking about the importance-of-the-Moon-this and the influence-of-the-ascendant-that for awhile before he put forth his question.

As he admitted, he's not completely sold on the application of astrology, but he was quite sincerely interested in knowing how it could apply when (and it is just a question of when) humans are born in some extraterrestrial colony. From an information systems standpoint, he was very interested to know whether it would still be applicable. I thought about it and said at the time, yeah, the variables would have to change: what archetype and associations would be given to Earth if one was born on the Moon? Or, if one was born on Mars, then how would it's two moons relate to someone's birth?

My friend said that when he'd put this question to people he knew were into astrology, they'd just get pissed or think that he was just putting astrology down. I think it's a very important consideration, and I wanted to know what anyone else thought? I don't know much about the heliocentric method, but perhaps the answer is connected to that system.

This is a good question. On Mars there is a whole different mythology about the meaning of the the planets and the Sun. The Earth's moon is so close to Earth that it is not an element of Martian Astrology..

On the other hand the position of the Martian moons, Demos and Phobos are extremely important in a Martian horoscope and are almost as important as the Sun.
    • I suppose that on would just draw up a planet-centered chart and start from there. It would definately be interesting to experiment with.
      • There are several software programs that allow you to do a planet-centered chart and have fun with it. A free one is Astrolog, created by Walter Pullen, which is available several places on the internet.

In my natal chart, I have only the Moon in Sagittarius. With a Mars-centered chart, the Earth, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Chiron are all in Sagittarius. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto stay in the same signs they are in in my regular chart, but Saturn moves from Virgo to Libra, squaring my Uranus, while Jupiter moves from Aries to Pisces, trining my Uranus. (In my regular chart, Saturn does not aspect Uranus, and Jupiter squares Uranus.

Now, will the planets have similar meanings on Mars? Only actually charting people born there will tell for sure. Jupiter much closer to you, for example....must seem almost like a mini-Sun. Perhaps it will be much more significant in a Martian chart? And what will Earth be to a Martian?

I think we all incarnated for a reason, which can be symbolized by our birth chart and the qualities inherent in it. These experiences our soul wanted to have were 'earthy' in nature, which are represented by the planets in our solar system, so we chose earth to be born on.

If someone were to be born on a distant planet, there would be a new system of astrology, which relflects and allows for the next experiences they intened to have in that incarnation.
